I enjoyed every moment of this book. Reading it was like listening to my grandparents and great-aunts and uncles sitting around telling their stories. Their tales may not be as outlandish as the ones in this book, but the flavor and character of peoples' lives is just the same. Richard Peck cleverly uses humor and quirky characters to tell his stories, with a little bit of history thrown in; readers may not even realize they're learning about the Great Depression as they read along. Each chapter is split into a separate year, with each story having a neat and amusing ending, making it an ideal book to read a chapter of before kids' bedtimes. All in all, an excellent book.
